The morning light slipped through the curtains and rested on the floor.
The house was quiet.
I could hear the soft hum of the air conditioner and feel the warmth of my coffee cup between my hands.
As I sat there, I began thinking about my life.
I realized that I was living a life I had once imagined for myself.
Things I had pictured in my mind had become part of my everyday experience.
It is incredible to experience something you once could only imagine.
To look around and recognize that what was once a possibility in your mind is now something you can see and experience for yourself.
I believed in a possibility I could not yet see.
And that got me thinking about faith and imagination.
What Does Imagination Have to Do With Faith?
Think about your life for a moment.
Have you ever imagined living somewhere you had never been?
Or pictured yourself doing something you had never done?
Perhaps you have imagined a different life without knowing exactly how you would get there.
You can see it in your mind.
You can picture what it might look like and imagine how it might feel to experience it.
Yet, when you look around, none of it may be part of your present life.
You can imagine it anyway.
This is what interests me about imagination.
It allows you to consider possibilities beyond what you see in front of you.
And faith allows you to believe in what you cannot yet see.
You don’t have to experience something first before you can imagine it.
You don’t have to see it in your physical world before you can believe it is possible.
Think about that.
How many things have you dismissed simply because you couldn’t see how they would happen?
Believing Beyond What You See
Sometimes, we look at our lives and decide what is possible based on what we already have.
If we have never experienced something, we assume it is out of reach.
If our circumstances don’t show us what we want, we begin to doubt whether we can have it.
But why should what you see today determine everything you believe is possible for you?
Your present circumstances show you what your life looks like right now.
They don’t tell you everything you could experience in the future.
You can imagine a different home, a different way of living, or a version of yourself you have never experienced being.
You can allow yourself to consider these possibilities without knowing exactly how they will become part of your life.
For me, this is where faith becomes important.
I can believe in a possibility without having physical evidence of it in front of me.
I can imagine something beyond my present experience and allow myself to believe that it is possible.
I don’t have to know every detail before I can believe.
And I don’t have to dismiss an idea simply because I cannot see it happening yet.
My Experience With Faith and Imagination
When I look at my own life, I can recognize the connection between what I imagined and what eventually became part of my experience.
The life I imagined for myself became possible.
In some ways, it became better than I had wished for.
I find that incredible.
Something I once pictured in my mind became something I could actually experience.
That is why I believe it matters what we allow ourselves to imagine and what we believe is possible for us.
I am not saying that knowing exactly how everything will unfold is necessary.
I am saying that we don’t have to limit our beliefs to what we can presently see.
There is a difference between not seeing something yet and deciding that it can never happen.
And I think that difference is worth considering.
What Do You Believe Is Possible for You?
I want you to think about your own life for a moment.
What have you decided is impossible simply because you have never experienced it?
What have you stopped yourself from imagining because you cannot see how it could happen?
Perhaps you have become so familiar with your present circumstances that you have forgotten to consider what else might be possible.
Give yourself permission to imagine something different.
Picture the experience you desire.
Consider the life you would love to live.
Allow yourself to explore the possibility without immediately looking for reasons it cannot happen.
You don’t have to figure everything out in this moment.
Just be willing to consider that there may be more possibilities available to you than you have allowed yourself to believe.
For me, faith and imagination are worth understanding because they have shaped how I see my life and what I believe is possible.
This is what I want to explore here at Be Renewed: faith, imagination, and the possibilities that exist beyond what we can presently see.
Because faith makes all things possible.
And sometimes, it begins with a simple willingness to imagine something you have never experienced and believe that it is possible for you.
